2023 Summary

December 27, 2023

I wrote a 2021 summary and regret that I didn't write a 2022 summary. Here's my 2023:

Interviewed for San Francisco City Guides. I began training in January and launched my tour in September

Started doing marketing consulting for startups. Worked with wonderful people at Causal, Glide and Complete

Went to a friends’ birthday brunch

Ran my first (and most memorable) trail run, starting at Dipsea, up Steep Ravine and down Ben Johnson

Bought and grilled $50 pork from Butcher Shop. It was good enough that I would’ve paid double; I called the owner and told him as such

Tweaked my left foot while running, which sidelined me from running for almost 5 months

Started taking creatine (gummies) for the first time and spent time lifting. By May, I was the strongest I’d been in my life

Went to board game nights with friends

Re-started playing the guitar

I learned Page’s solo from Ten Years Gone. I played it very poorly.

Decided I wanted my career to be in M&A or investing

Started doing finance consulting for funds and startups

Began sending biweekly accountability/update emails to trusted friends and colleagues

Kicked off training for SFCG. Training was ~twice a month on Saturday’s for six months

Went to a comedy show at Punch Line

Attended Japantown, Victorian SF, Corona Heights, Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower Murals SFCG tours as a walker(not a guide)

Caught up over sushi with my best friend from grade school. I hadn’t seen him in over a decade

Visited Whitefish, MT (unknowingly, this would become more routine)

Started buying vintage denim shirts, Shetland sweaters and Levi’s 1990s jeans from eBay

Saw another comedy show at Punch Line for my birthday (27)

First date with P at ABV. We’ve now been dating for over 9 months

Lost power at my house for four days, relied on friends to charge my electronic and keep me company

Had a writing session at Half Moon Bay rental

Bought a Dyson Cyclone Animal. I use it multiple times per week

Visited Seattle to attend the wedding of my host sister from when I lived in Korea in high school

Restarted my addiction to Maxim coffee

Practiced Page’s solo from Ten Years Gone. I played it very well.

Tended to new houseplants. My rubber plant has grown over 3x since I bought it

Hiked Dipsea 2x

Coworked with J at Sapphire Ventures’ office in Menlo Park

Traveled to Whitefish, MT with the boys. Hiking, biking, golf

Began to meet P’s friends; we started hosting dinner parties together

Went to a Giants game. There was supposed to be fireworks; because there wasn’t, they gave us free tickets to a2nd Giants game

Saw Lane 8 in concert

Visited my childhood house in Minnesota for the final time (my parents retired to Montana this year)

Played in a pickleball Volo league

Made chicken parmesan

Got a job; got Covid

Visited NYC

Ran the Brooklyn Mile

Visited Denver with the other boys

Saw a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater

Started new job at ScaleView

Watched Oldboy in theater

Braised chuck roast beef (many times)

Went for a run at Half Moon Bay

Went to Alameda Flea Market

Redesigned my home office

Traveled to Austin, TX for work kickoff

Began cooking dinner for my friends 1:1

Hosted and went to many house parties and dinner parties

Passed SEI Exam

Traveled to Yosemite with P

Watched Perfect Days at the Mill Valley Film Festival with N

Stayed in a Mid-Century Modern in Marin for a long weekend with my family

Began trail running with M

Watched P run the Golden Gate Half Marathon

Passed Series 79 Exam

Hosted 25 people for Friendsgiving

Thanksgiving in Long Beach

Visited Austin, TX for more work trips

Met with a retired film professor to discuss Citizen Kane

Passed Series 63 Exam

Went to a corporate holiday party, the Nutcracker Ballet, and Yuletide Affair

Visited my family in Whitefish, MT(where they now live)

Completed 5 total Telegraph Hill SFCG tours as a guide
